We are looking for a Systems Engineer for an Ivy League, higher education facility in the Northeast part of the country. Systems Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership to employees and supervisors while overseeing routine daily.
  • Develops integrated systems that may combine commercial programs, open-source software, and locally developed code.
  • Provides expert knowledge of software development, data design, systems and business analysis techniques, and detailed knowledge of business functions.
  • Determines the hardware and software required to deploy the system with enterprise-quality performance and reliability.
  • Evaluates the cost/benefit of commercial products, open-source products, and local development of solutions to address business needs
  • Develops customer partnerships built on delivery, timely and effective communication, and trust.
  • Identifies opportunities and implements “best practices” to improve user satisfaction by adding new services or modifying existing ones.
  • Leverages feedback from users and other computing professionals and colleagues at peer institutions and assists administrators of other systems to troubleshoot programming or networking expertise problems
  • Leads and participates in DEI initiatives and trainings to a culture consistent with our 7 Principles (Empathy, Fair, Dependable, Inclusive, Considerate, Vulnerability and Respect)

Systems Engineer Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of Computer Science or Engineering
  • Five to seven years of relevant experience in the design, development, and implementation of networked computer systems
  • Two or more years’ experience developing solutions used in complex multi-threaded applications.
  • Demonstrated skill in using current programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, Ruby, Go, Rust, or JavaScript. Knowledge of structured programming and design techniques. Familiarity with computer security systems, including public-key cryptography.
  • Demonstrated skill in using tools such as Git, GitLab, Jenkins, Selenium, Docker, Kubernetes, Eclipse, VS Code
  • Demonstrated skill in the administration of operating systems such as Windows, Linux
  • Ability to automate simple and complex tasks using programming, scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash/Shell), or tools
  • Demonstrated skills in using web servers and application servers such as Apache Tomcat, JBoss/Wildfly.
  • Demonstrated skills in database technologies such as MSSQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle
  • Demonstrated skill in cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, GCP
  • Evangelizes DevOps best practices such as CI/CD pipelines, Agile, and automated testing
  • Ability to rapidly become proficient in new programming libraries, languages, or operating systems as they are adopted. Familiarity with available open-source software resources.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, routing, and protocols. Expertise with troubleshooting tools including network packet captures, source-level debuggers, and core files
  • The ability to develop partnerships with customers, which are built on delivery, timely and effective communication, and trust.
