Summary:

The primary role of the Business Development Engineer(BDE) is to find new construction project opportunities and position our company for success. The BDE role is centered on client relationships and works closely with our Estimating team when considering future business ventures.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain strict adherence to all company safety rules, regulations, procedures and practices.
  • Share the “Courage to Care” message with teammates and serve as a positive example of safety.
  • Meet with new and existing customers to build and strengthen relationships
  • Meet with customers, engineers, vendors, sub-contractors and other business development people within the market to find opportunities, understand conditions and help to build our forecast
  • Qualify project opportunities by talking to customers to learn scope, risk, how they plan to go to market, when the work will take place, when the work will be awarded
  • Work with our customers to develop a clear understanding of project scopes and clearly communicate this information to internal team members
  • Prepare proposals and presentations for customer interviews, Act as a liaison for the organizations Contractors
  • Develop project sales strategies that include how we interact within the market to be successful
  • Develop and build strong relationships with our major vendors and subcontractors
  • Review plans and specifications to understand the scope of work
  • Build high level budgets for project opportunities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements:

  • Possess Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Construction, or Construction Engineering Management
  • Possess strong technical and mechanical knowledge of HVAC, ductwork, plumbing and piping systems
  • Demonstrate skills, experience and proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Excel for cost and engineering functions; knowledge of CRM systems
  • Demonstrate strong presentation skills
  • Possess business development experience
  • Possess client management skills; ability to manage customer relationships, perceptions and expectations
  • Knowledge and interest of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, accounting, cost forecasting, resource allocation, and coordination of people and resources
  • Ability to travel as necessary to jobs and meetings
  • Possess strong analysis, problem-solving and critical thinking skills to provide innovative solutions
