The Payroll Manager will be the person to lead all payroll activities and benefits administration for approximately 500 staff.  This position will report to and work very closely with the CFO, work collaboratively with Human Resources, and also perform supervisory functions within the Payroll Branch.  The qualified candidate will have more than 3 years of experience working directly with payroll and, ideally, some experience as a supervisor.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Lead all activities involving the payroll and benefits administration functions for multiple corporations within the organization and approximately 500 staff
  • Develops strong teams to carry out the payroll function by recruiting, selecting, training, and developing new members as required
  • Providing coaching, mentoring, and development of existing professions with the project
  • Communicating performance and client expectations and standards and ensuring applicable policies, procedures, and best practices are adhered to
  • Delegating and monitoring work of team members; establishing performance goals
  • Evaluating employee performance to ensure goals are met and providing timely feedback, assessment of work performance and discipline if required
  • Ensuring succession plans for self and employees to deliver on project strategies and objectives
  • Collaborate with other departments for continuous process optimization
  • Accurately process bi-weekly with weeks alternating between corporations for hourly, salaried, and casual employees
  • Process and validate payroll expenses, deductions, garnishments, and adjustments through the ADP system
  • Record payroll entries in SAGE ERP 300
  • Produce annual T4, WCB Reports, and other external party reports as required
  • Reconciliation of all applicable accounts
  • Work with Human Resources in processing new hires, rehires, transfers, terminations, and administration of employee benefits
  • Possess and apply awareness of company policies, procedures, and internal payroll controls at all levels of required work
Qualifications:
  • 3 – 5+ years’ experience producing full cycle payroll, in a large complex organization
  • National Payroll Institute Membership required
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification required
  • A Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) is ideal
  • Advanced knowledge of payroll practices, methodologies, and procedures required
  • Experience with ADP and/or SAGE 300 ERP would be ideal
  • Demonstrated experience managing staff; providing mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback with the ability to motivate others in a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint with an ability to easily learn new software application
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislative requirements at the Provincial/Federal levels regarding Employers, Payroll, and Benefits Administration
  • Knowledge of tax laws especially as they relate to Indigenous and Non-Indigenous staff working on and off Reserve
  • Proven ability to develop and implement changes in processes, policies, and/or procedures for improvement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Dependability: able to work independently, submit accurate documentation, and seek guidance when needed
  • Receptive: accept feedback, take ownership of responsibilities, and identifies areas of growth
  • Interpersonal Skills: communicates clearly, seeks solutions, and demonstrates flexibility
  • Integrity: keep sensitive information confidential and adheres to company policies
