JOB TITLE: Public Health Advisor JOB DESCRIPTION
 

REPORTS TO: Regional Program Manager
 

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Public Health Advisor (PHA) is a Loyal Source employee who functions within the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) contract, at an assigned Quarantine Stations, to provide consultation support services on the medical, epidemiologic and prevention aspects of infectious diseases. The PHA performs various functions and services, such as epidemiologic casework, promotional, and associated support activities. At this level, the advisor applies a basic knowledge of the particular disease control program as it operates in the assigned Quarantine Station, the diagnostic and treatment resources available, and the involvement of any other organizations which may be affiliated with the disease control effort. PHAs are also familiar with the basic social, economic, cultural, and public health characteristics of location in which they work, and other pertinent features of the environmental setting which affect their assignments.
 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Designate passengers needing transportation to a local hospital for further evaluation and diagnosis due to being suspected of being infected with an infectious disease (e.g., COVID-19)

• Responsible for following up with the hospital for a final diagnosis

• Provide passengers with information, directives and resources such as T-HANS (Travelers’ Health Alert Notices)

• Responsible for generating electronic and written records related to the public health risk assessment during the entry screening process

• May board aircrafts with Customs and Border Protection Officers (the customs officer being there to ensure compliance from passengers and crew) to conduct passenger assessment

• Display technical and interpersonal competence in independently meeting and partnering with other Quarantine Station health personnel on matters which transcend individual cases

• Resolve all but the most demanding casework problems and to gain the confidence, support, and cooperation of medical, laboratory, and other persons with operational aspects of the program

• Independently make complete casework arrangements

• Develop and expand contacts as the situation requires, and initiate contact with health workers who may not have been previously involved with the disease control effort
• And other duties as assigned within the scope of the role REQUIREMENTS

• Master’s Degree in Public Health, Public Health Education, Health Communications, Infectious Disease, or Community Health (verification required) *applicable as of 10/2020 for all new hires

• At least one (1) year experience in public health environment

• At least one (1) year experience in infection prevention

• At least four (4) years customer service experience

• Must be able to work in a team environment with limited supervision

• Successful passing of background check to obtain proper security badging

• Ability to pass respirator fit test

• Willingness to interact with individuals who may be suspected of being infected with an infectious disease • Proficient in operation of office equipment such as computers, phones, etc. • Ability to work onsite (not a telework position) PHYSICAL

 

REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to stand for long periods of time

• Ability to walk long distances at times between terminals

• Ability to wear full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (occasionally heavier) PREFERRED

• Previous experience working with the CDC or Federal Government in a Public Health environment
