Purchasing Coordinator needed Manufacturing facility in Bedford Park, Illinois
This role is 100% on-site
Salary: $50K – $55K
Job Summary: The Materials Coordinator is responsible for the purchasing of items for manufacturing within the guidelines of customer and company standards, practices, and procedures. A successful candidate demonstrates the ability to work in a fast-past environment, be extremely organized, and pay a high level of attention to detail.
Responsibilities:

  • Order steel per MRP-verify correct pricing for PO’s. Visual Manufacturing.
  • Interface with Manufacturing personnel, Purchasing personnel, etc., on material status and production planning issues.
  • Monitor backorders and take appropriate actions to minimize recurrence.
  • Maintain supplier relationships and smooth flow of materials by ensuring quantity related invoice errors are resolved timely.
  • Meet with General Manager, Materials Manager and Plant Manager monthly to review schedule and shipments/forecast.
  • Cross-train with others in the department and provide coverage as required.
  • Scheduling steel trucks for the receiving department.
  • Confirm orders to Production Scheduler/Production Supervisors
  • Process turndown requests
  • Provide a timely request of steel and material packaging, including ordering, expediting, and de-expediting according to current MRP requirements.
  • Pro-actively track orders and contact vendors to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Establish and maintain vendor relationships.
  • Maintain Caterpillar steel group detail communicate any concerns with Sales/Customer Service.
  • Produce and distribute reports by tracking steel usage reports and sending a copy to Caterpillar following shipment of orders.
  • Contact suppliers to acknowledge, adjust, expedite, or perform follow-ups on steel orders to determine the status of an order.
  • Communicate to Production Scheduler of changes shipping dates.
  • Contact warehouse suppliers/service centers for steel availability and cost as necessary to expedite production.
  • Issue material on completed jobs and complete inventory adjustments of raw material.
  • Receiving of Material, OVS, MRO daily.
  • Maintain heat codes and release work orders to quality for manufacturing.
  • Create a warehouse sheet and total cost and/or specifications deviation form for substitution as needed.
  • Assist with special projects
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 2 years of experience in purchasing preferred; ideally in manufacturing
  • Proficient with Microsoft products (Excel, Teams, Outlook)
  • Experienced with ERP systems, with Visual 9.0 preferred
  • Flexible and adapts to change easily
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork
  • Proactive responsiveness to customer inquiries
  • High level of organization, detail, and ability to juggle multiple items
  • Ability to accomplish projects with minimal oversight
