In-House Opportunity for an experienced Legal Assistant. The ideal candidate will have some CD (Construction Defect) litigation experience. If not that specifically, they are seeking someone with multi-party, multi-documents-complicated legal cases.

Compensation will depend on experience. Firm offers a nice benefit package, generous PTO, bonus, 501(k) and Profit Sharing.

The Legal Assistant will perform legal research, monitor claims and law suits, and provide litigation-related support to their in-house attorneys. Responsibilities include inputting information into file database and case management software; preparing and filing discovery requests; preparing responses to opposing counsel; and generating status reports. Must be customer focused and enjoy making contact with our policyholders, courts, and other law firms, in an effort to confirm accurate case status with the attorney(s). Position is located at their corporate headquarters in Sarasota, FL.

The Staff Counsel team consists of (5) Attorneys and (4) Support: Legal Assistants /Admin/Clerical – and one team member handles the majority of scheduling.

Required

* Minimum of four years Legal Assistant and/or paralegal experience in an insurance defense firm or claimant law firm or equivalent, including work experience in litigation and scheduling. Additional experience helpful.

* Experience with legal case management software highly desirable.

* Ability to draft effective legal documents.

* Highly organized and detail-oriented.

* Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

* Advanced knowledge of legal terminology and law office practices and procedures.

* Advanced knowledge of litigation practices and procedures.

* Solid knowledge of insurance and medical terminology.

* Solid knowledge of standard office procedures and practices.

* Solid knowledge of the principles of correct grammar usage.

Preferred

* Associates or better in Business or related field.

* Experience with construction defect and bodily injury litigation.
