CAD Drafter/Designer

Exciting opportunity available at a locally owned sheet metal manufacturing shop for a CAD Drafter/Designer. The role involves preparing precise shop drawings, ensuring alignment with customer specifications, and adhering to internal processes. Additionally, the Designer will be responsible for preparing parts for laser cutting, specifying tooling for press brake operations, and may need light CNC programming skills.

We are seeking a reliable individual who collaborates effectively with others and embraces the diversity of daily tasks and projects.

CAD Drafter/Designer Key responsibilities include:

  • Generating shop drawings from customer prints, part models, samples, or specifications.
  • Creating comprehensive CAD drawings with all necessary views, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Specifying materials and tools (press brake) for each job on shop drawings.
  • Implementing revision control, identifying customer print changes, and updating shop drawings accordingly.
  • Maintaining excellent attention to detail to minimize rework due to inaccuracies in shop drawings.
  • Managing drafter work backlog, ensuring production has all required shop drawings and programming.
  • Utilizing SolidWorks for CAD drawing design.
  • Recognizing when to escalate issues and seek assistance.
  • Actively participating in Continuous Improvement, contributing ideas and innovations in a collaborative, bureaucracy-free small business environment.
  • Organizing work area and tools.
  • Adhering to company rules, policies, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Communicating productively with the team to identify and overcome challenges.
  • Building a respectful work environment through effective teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of experience as a CAD Designer (SolidWorks or AutoCAD preferred)
  • Proficiency and confidence with SolidWorks.
  • Experience in sheet metal part manufacturing processes.
  • CNC machine programming experience (laser, press brake, punch)
  • Basic understanding of sheet metal nesting software, such as SigmaNEST.
  • Effective project management, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Critical attention to detail.
  • Competence in computer use and data entry.
  • Forklift operation capability.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Flexibility, responsiveness, and strong teamwork orientation.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Eagerness to learn new skills and enhance technical knowledge.
  • Commitment to the quality of work performed.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively implement or respond to change.

Preferred Experience:

  • 2-4 years of experience as a CAD Designer (SolidWorks or AutoCAD preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with press brake, tool selection, and problem-solving
  • Experience with CNC nesting software.

The standard workweek is 40 hours, with occasional overtime.

Operating hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.

Salary: $20.00 – $28.00/hr.
